The article examines the service of chaplains in Russian army 1917. Institute Chaplains was established response to growth revolutionary propaganda army. process introducing a position and responsibilities imposed by official instructions are analyzed article. main duties involved conducting talks speaking soldiers. provides data on appointment, transfer dismissal priests from chaplain. most competent experienced clergy were employed. However, some armies this vacant for long time, while others there turnover priests. also describes activities expands interaction with regimental observations enable conclude about decline spirit military clergy. subject speeches, its compliance protopresbyter considered. focuses issue attitude soldiers their speeches. It ranged benevolence explicit discontent aggression. Although contemporaries praised work clergy, reports reflected less positive perception. Some did not fulfill assigned them; they allowed evasion demoralized units, familiarity officers. conscientious could bring serious results current social political situation. prepared basis archival materials previously published.
